Backpack Charm

Level of difficulty: Beginner

Personalize your backpack with cute name and photo charms! An ice cream cone charm is a fun addition to the collection. The charms are fun to make for yourself or to give as gifts to your friends.

Let’s Do This!

ICE CREAM CHARM
Step 1:
A) Tie a key ring in the middle of a 24" length of cord.
Step 2:
A) On the right-hand cord, string one hot pink bead. With the left-hand cord, go through the same bead in the opposite direction.
B) Pull on both cords to tighten the bead up against the key ring.
Step 3:
A) Repeat the process from Step 2 on the second row, stringing four pink beads.
B) Weave a total of seven rows, using the guide in the step visuals for bead colors and placement.
C) Tie off the cord after the last bead. Snip off excess cord using scissors.

Note: Additional charms can be added to the key ring as they are made, we kept them on separate key rings here for easier instructional viewing.
PHOTO CHARM
Step 1:
A) Cover the front and back of a piece of scrap cardboard using Decorative Tape. Make sure the tape matches in the placement on the front and back.
B) Trace a circle that's smaller than the width of the tape. We used the bottom of a bathroom cup.
C) Cut out the circle.
Step 2:
A) Punch a circle through the top of the photo charm. We used a standard 1/4" hole punch.
B) Attach a photo to the charm.TIP: For extra durability, cover the front of the charm with clear packing tape after the photo is in place. Trim excess tape and re-punch the hole.
Step 3:
A) Fold an 8" length of cord in half and loop it through the photo charm to secure it in place.
B) String beads on the cord. We used eight assorted colors.
C) Loop the cord back around through the last bead.
D) Tie the cord to the key ring and knot in place to secure it. Snip off any excess cord.
