Frame Terrarium

Level of difficulty: Beginner

Create your very own terrarium with Dollar General frames! Why buy an expensive one when you can create a unique one for a third of the price!

Let’s Do This!

Step 1:
A) Tip: When available, to skip spray painting step, purchase (4) white 4"x6" frames instead. Take apart the four 5"x7" frames and the four 4"x6" frames. Discard the cardboard and paper inserts. Set the glass aside.
Step 2:
A) Paint the front and back of all frames the same color. Let dry.
Step 3:
A) Reassemble the frames.
Step 4: To assemble the base of the terrarium:
A) Arrange two 5"x7" frames horizontally on your work surface and at a right angle to each other, with the end of one frame flush against the other. Temporarily secure the corner in place with painter’s tape.
B) Add another 5"x7" frame to the base. Keep it at a right angle and flush against the first frame, mimicking the one on the other side. Temporarily secure the corner in place with painter’s tape.
Step 5:
A) Run a bead of hot glue down the back of both of the short sides of the remaining 5"x7" frame. Carefully align it and secure it to the remaining side of the base. Be sure to keep the sides square.
Step 6:
A) Remove the tape from the other side of the base which will release the frame on that side.
B) Run a bead of hot glue down the back of both of the short sides of the 5"x7" frame you just removed in Step 6A.
C) Carefully align the frame to its previously taped position and secure it in place. Be sure to keep the sides square.
Step 7: To assemble the Roof:
A) Hot glue two of the 4"x6" frames together, side-by-side.
B) Repeat for the second set of 4"x6" frames.
Step 8:
A) Working quickly and carefully, run a bead of hot glue down the top of the two longer sides of the base.
B) Set the two roof halves on top of the glue from Step 8A, and lean them towards each other until they meet at the center peak. Use tape to secure the roof pieces until the glue sets and hardens.
C) Once the glue has hardened, remove all tape and carefully turn the terrarium upside down. Run a bead of hot glue along the inside seam of the roof peak to add extra stability.
