No-Sew Pumpkins

Level of difficulty: Beginner

Rustic No-Sew Pumpkins will add the perfect touch to your fall décor. They can be transitioned from Halloween decorating to Thanksgiving place settings.

Let’s Do This!

Step 1:
Cut a 16” length of jute from the package.
Dye the 16” length of jute an olive green by saturating it with watercolor paint. Let dry.
Coat the green jute with Tacky Glue and wrap the jute around a dowel or pencil. Tape the ends in place to secure. Let dry.
Remove the tape and carefully peel the jute from the dowel or pencil. It should retain a Curly-Q shape. Cut the length in half to make two curly vines.
Step 2:
Use the pumpkin leaf template provided, or create your own pumpkin leaf template, and trace the leaf shape onto white felt. You will need two leaves.
Dye the leaves an olive green, with touches of brown, by saturating the felt with watercolor paint. Let dry.
Step 3:
Remove the rest of the jute from the package (you will need 9 ½ yards). Cut the length in half to make two 4 ¾ yard lengths.
Cut the two pieces from Step 3A in half to make four 2 3/8 yard pieces.
Dye two of the 2 3/8 yard strands of jute orange by saturating them with watercolor paint. Let dry. Set the other two undyed pieces aside for a later step.
Step 4:
To make the orange pumpkin: Cut a slit down the length of a toilet paper tube. Note: You can also use a paper towel tube cut to a length of 4 ½”.
Cut a 4” piece of jute off one of the orange jute strands. Lay the 4” jute piece inside the cut paper tube.
Pinch the end of one of the orange jute strands to the paper tube with your thumb and wrap the whole piece of jute around the tube.
Keep the wrapped jute in place around the tube while sliding the 4” piece of jute through the slit in the tube. Pull the 4” piece tight to gather the wrapped jute into a bunch. Knot securely. Trim off the excess from the knot and any loose ends from the wrapped jute.
Step 5:
Repeat Step 4 to create the other half of the orange pumpkin and the two halves of the natural jute pumpkin.
Hot glue the orange sides together, by pressing firmly, to make the orange pumpkin. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the natural pumpkin.
Step 6:
Hot glue a small stick onto the top of each pumpkin to make a stem.
Hot glue a curly green jute piece, close to your “stem”, onto the top of each pumpkin to make a vine.
Hot glue a leaf onto the top of each pumpkin for the finishing touch!
